Development of Instant Tea from Glinus oppositifolius Using Wet Granulation Method: Extraction Conditions, Formulation, and Quality Assessment

Abstract
Glinus oppositifolius (L.) is a medicinal herb rich in bioactive compounds that have been shown to exhibit hepatoprotective, diuretic, and detoxifying effects. However, no studies have been conducted on the formulation of instant tea from this medicinal herb. This study aimed to investigate the extraction conditions, formulation, and quality evaluation of instant tea from Glinus oppositifolius to develop a convenient and effective product for consumption. The extraction conditions investigated included solvent selection, herb-to-solvent ratio, extraction temperature, and extraction time. The instant tea was prepared using the wet granulation method. The formulation consisted of a concentrated extract mixture of Glinus oppositifolius and Stevia rebaudiana, PVP K30, lactose monohydrate, and 96% ethanol. The optimal formulation was selected based on appearance, moisture content, disintegration time, and total flavonoid content. The results indicated that the optimal formulation contained a 30% extract mixture of Glinus oppositifolius and Stevia rebaudiana in a 1:4 ratio, with lactose as the filler excipient. This formulation met the desired quality criteria, including an appropriate appearance, a moisture content of 3.45 ± 0.03%, a uniform weight of 3.00 ± 0.02 g, a disintegration time of 2.32 ± 0.05 minutes, and a total flavonoid content of 1.18 ± 0.06 mg QE per gram of tea. This study successfully developed an instant tea from Glinus oppositifolius, and its quality was thoroughly evaluated.
